Scout Shop Sales Associate

Position Overview:

Sales associate provides friendly, informative service by actively seeking out customers to assess their needs and providing assistance. Associates are responsible for greeting customers, providing information on products and services, closing the customer’s sale, reconciliation and posting of sales. Associates maintain the in-stock condition of assigned areas and ensure that the store is clean, shoppable, and safe. These associates work indirectly with other office departments. Specific departments include Field Services, Outdoor Program, Accounting, and Administration.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide quick and friendly service
  • Offer a friendly greeting. Smile, and make eye contact with customers
  • Ask open ended questions about what the customer is looking for
  • Show enthusiasm with the customer
  • When necessary, work with several customers at once
  • Thank customers for shopping
  • Follow up with customers via telephone and e-mail when appropriate

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

  • Quality Services makes customers the first priority, actively seeking out customers, greets all customers, and offers assistance
  • Retail and Scouting experience is helpful
  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint is helpful, but not necessary. An eagerness to learn these skills is key
  • Selling Skills – promotes products and services using Greet-Qualify-Recommend-Close, resolves customers concerns; executes Good, Better, Best strategy

Summer Employment Opportunities at Camp

Program Specialist - Program Specialist is responsible for running after school programs that consist of one hour meetings. The participants consist of a group of youth between 1st and 5th grade. The locations vary between the various districts the council serves: Union, Morris, Sussex, Somerset and parts of Middlesex counties. We serve the children of these communities in organizations including YMCA’s, schools, churches, and other community organizations. It is required that program specialists must have a mode of transportation and be at least 18 years of age. Upon acceptance the Program Specialist must undergo two types of training, online and in person. They will follow a program syllabus that is provided, which consists of a monthly themed lesson plan based on the Cub Scout advancement program. Program Specialists must abide by all the standards and regulations of the Boy Scouts of America as well as those put forward by the organizations we serve through our programs.
